Minneapolis brides only. Try on and fit required.
This dress is a stunner in white lace and champagne underlay with a long train and matching cathedral-length veil (included). The bodice features a sweetheart-shaped, scalloped neckline and a plunging back. It's all understated elegance and drama. Wear it for less than 30% of the original price I paid.
MY STORY: The fit you see in these photos was not the original fit of the dress. One of the best, most experienced seamstresses in Minneapolis put some amazing work into transforming it into a true couture gown.
Google this dress and you will see that it is one of the most common styles for resale. I can tell you why. It's not because "It just wasn't right for the bride." It's because when they put it on you in a larger size in the boutique and pin it, the larger dimensions and unique cut makes it mould perfectly to every curve - and you FALL IN LOVE with it.
That all changes when it arrives. When you put this dress on in your size, it is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT dress - like the dimensions are 100% different - in a very bad, panic inducing kind of way. In my case, the neckline fell extremely low - just above my actual chest and the boning buckled at my waist - not an attractive look.
Rather than resell it, I decided that I loved the original fit and I was going to get the dress I fell in love with. And boy am I glad I did! I sent the dress back to the manufacturer and insisted they send me the much larger size that I originally tried on in the boutique. Then I hired my amazing seamstress and we worked together to painstakingly resize the entire dress and preserve the shape I loved.
I spent almost $4,000 for the dress, then around $2,000 more in alterations to give it a seamless couture fit. You won't find anything like it for order in bridal boutiques or online. In fact, I had family members attend a wedding where the bride wore the Emma dress, and two of them commented (seperately!) to me that my dress was so different and flattering they couldn't believe it was the same Matthew Christopher gown.
If you're a regular size 2/4, this might be your dress.
What I loved about it:
- The scalloped neckline was so dramatic.
- The champagne underlay was just the right shade of light gold to make the white lace really stand out. It has an iridescence that made me feel like a mermaid emerging from a clam shell (that may or may not have been an actual compliment I received) :-)
- People could not stop telling me on my wedding day how classic they thought this gown was.
